What players were the best for a single week, or even a single round, on the LPGA Tour in 2024? Here are five picks from Fore-All of impressive turns on the golf course this season:
No. 5 – Ruoning Yin Buick LPGA Shanghai – Ruoning Yin was dominant winning in her home country, grabbing a six-stroke victory, mostly off the strength of a dominant final round. Yin shot a -8 64 in that last round, going -6 on the back nine.
No. 4 – Linnea Ström Shoprite LPGA Classic – Ström plain and simply had the round of the year on the LPGA Tour when she shot an -11 60 in the final round to come from behind and win. This final round was so unbelievable that she wasn’t even included in the TV coverage on Sunday. Ström’s final round in New Jersey was the most impressive of the season.
No. 3 – Rose Zhang Cognizant Founder’s Cup – It would take something special to break Nelly Korda’s five-tournament win streak in 2024, and Zhang’s incredible performance at the Cognizant Founder’s Cup was exactly that. While Madelene Sagström also played terrifically, forcing a tight duel, Zhang was flawless shooting -24 for the tournament. For reference, Gabi Ruffels, who finished in third place, shot 15 strokes higher. Zhang and Sagström were both dominant, with Rose coming out on top in the end.
No. 2 – Nelly Korda T-Mobile Matchplay – Nelly Korda worked her way into the match play portion of this event relatively late and by a close margin, once she got into the finals though, she was dominant. The fourth win in a row for the Player of the Year included wins by margins of 3 & 2, 4 & 3 and 4 & 3. That final win was over match play expert Leona Maguire. Korda excelled in the match play portion of the event, never having a close round on the way to her most impressive victory of the year.
No. 1 – Amy Yang KPMG Women’s PGA Championship – The worst major of the year was the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, mostly because of the dominance from Amy Yang. Yang entered the week as the best player on the LPGA Tour without a major, and she won her first emphatically. Her final round 72 was enough to give her a three-stroke win, despite some struggles late in the event. It was a dominant win over some of the best players in the world, Lilia Vu and Jin Young Ko, who finished in second place.
